2+3=5

Rees has had a few birthday parties this month (Berretts, Hansens, & school). I have not had my camera for any of them. You can see a few pictures on Bry’s blog here.
I can’t believe five years have passed since Rees was born. I am not going to lie – it was a rough couple of months for me after his birth (a combination of PPD, colic, & self-pity). We got through it, & even though it doesn’t seem possible, I see something in him every day that makes me love him more.
Next year I plan to start a new tradition with him for his birthday. On or around his birthday, we will have him decide on a service project he can do (with our help, of course). I heard this idea somewhere & thought it was so brilliant. The object is to teach your child that they can be a positive influence on the world – that because they were born, the world can be a better place. I think regular birthday parties are fine, & I’m sure we’ll have them, but I’d like to add a different dimension to birthday celebrations in our family.
